Lagelu warriors is a football club, whose home ground is in Ibadan Nigeria. The project involved extensive research, designing a logo and other visual representation items.

Visual Identity Design

The brief

Lagelu Warriors Football Club is a vertically integrated sports team in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. They aim to create a niche market for sports research and development in their operation base. Their mission is to be the first Nigerian football club to go on a world tour.


The client wanted to create a bold and culturally representative identity that would improve their marketing and appeal to their target audience.

Context

The Yorubas believe the Lion is the king of the jungle and is held in high regards for it’s courage and strength. Although Ẹkùn (Tiger) is generally used to refer to a warrior or a strong and influential person instead of the lion, the Yorubas do not dispute the qualities of the lion and they us it symbolizes symbolizes strength, courae it to represent only the most courageous, fierce and respectable personalities of all ages.

Lagelu, who founded Ẹ̀bà Ọ̀dàn and Ẹ̀bàdàn, which later became Ìbàdàn, was a prominent warrior of held in the highest regard in the yoruba land, making him worthy to be represented by the symbol of highest strength, courage and power: the Lion. The Brand desires and strives to be held in the same regard as the warrior it is named after.
